REALTOR® Political Action Committee Protects Your Livelihood

It is only because of REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC) investments that the REALTORS® have effectively fought legislative attacks on the industry.

RPAC helps to elect policy makers who support REALTOR® issues, pass laws that improve quality of life in local communities, wherein REALTORS® thrive, sell homes and help other individuals build the American Dream. We need your RPAC investment now to ensure our continued success.

The Oregon Association of REALTORS® had a successful session with much of its agenda enacted into law. In addition, nearly every bill that the Association opposed was defeated. This success was due in large part to the Association’s political strategy of carrying issues that appealed to legislators of both parties and RPAC’s commitment to support candidates of both parties who support REALTOR® core issues.

During the 2006 legislative session, the Association identified bills related to REALTOR® issues such as affordable housing, property rights, and regulation of the real estate industry. Victories came in the form of:

  • Successfully establishing the right of owners to have existing homes remodeled prior to sale
  •  Denying development opponents “a second bite at the apple” in land use appeals
  •  Updating the escrow form to ensure that real estate licensees get paid at closing
  •  Defeating real estate transfer taxes, limits on the mortgage interest deduction and a new tax on real estate agents
  •  Defeating misguided mortgage legislation
  •  Proposing a balanced five-point plan to address Measure 37
  •  Taking the lead in protecting homeowners’ water rights
  •  Helping pass land use reform to legalize illegally created lots
  •  Stopping mandatory inclusionary zoning.

The Oregon Association of REALTORS® continues to fight for the interests of Realtors® and their clients. It will continue to push its balanced policies that appeal to members of both parties. Finally, it will work with legislative leadership to ensure that all legislators consider the effects of their decisions on the American Dream of homeownership, but we can’t do it without individual investments in RPAC!

The REALTOR® Political Action Committee makes sure each voice is heard and the industry is protected. It’s Insurance for your business!
