11.14.18: Heating Oil Tank Cleanups in Oregon - Are We Done Yet?+

11.14.18
9:30am - 10:30am

CE hrs: 1
Location: Webinar
Hosting Association: OREGON ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®
Category: Live Teleconference | WebEx | GoToMeeting

Instructor:

Contamination from leaking heating oil tanks emerged as an environmental issue in Oregon in the 1980's. In 1999 Oregon developed a contractor certification system for heating oil tank cleanups designed to match timelines and needs of typical residential real estate transactions. Current estimates suggest only one third of the tanks in Oregon have been identified so far.

In this webinar Oregon DEQ staff will summarize information about remaining heating oil tanks and common issues with project work. Homeowner and real estate transaction interests will be emphasized. We will also review a DEQ budget request being prepared for the 2019 legislative session intended to improve the effectiveness and outcomes of this work. DEQ is seeking questions and comments about these issues from Realtors. The input from this session may influence design, funding and pace of heating oil tank cleanups in Oregon.

A webinar titled "Heating Oil Tank Closures in Oregon: Status and Process" was presented by OAR in March 2018 with basic information about tank discovery, investigation and closure. Viewing it before this session will provide background but is not a prerequisite. This webinar will provide 1 credit of CE in Environmental Protection Issues in Real Estate.

When internet impostors use your email to trick consumers into giving out their personal information, it's called phishing. Phishing is not just a problem for consumers, but also for you. How you guard against and respond to phishing scams can help you retain your client's goodwill you've worked to develop. This webinar will review: (1) how to recognize potential threats in your email, including how to identify fraudulent messages; (2) best practices that safeguard your client's personal information; and (3) what to do if clients contact you upset that they responded to a phishing email from someone impersonating you.

01.08.19: Understanding the Domestic Well Testing Act and Radon Awareness for the REALTOR Community+

01.08.19
9:30am - 10:30am

CE hrs: 1
Location: Webinar
Hosting Association: OREGON ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®
Category: Live Teleconference | WebEx | GoToMeeting

Instructor: Kari Christensen, Jara Popinga

This will be a 2-part webinar, focusing on Domestic Wells and Radon in Real Estate Transactions.

Domestic Well Safety Program (DWSP): The two main topics of the DWSP covered in this webinar are: domestic/private well best practices and the Domestic Water Testing Act (ORS 448.271). Learn how contaminants affect human health, what the main contaminants are in Oregon, and what watch out for in wells during real estate transactions. In addition, DWSP will explain statute and rules regarding the Domestic Water Testing Act, address common misconceptions, and introduce the new online submission for DWTA test results.

Radon is an issue which has been largely overlooked on the coast, however recent testing has indicated that there is cause for concern as we've seen results which have far exceeded the 4.0 piC/L threshold. The EPA SIRG grant includes an objective to raise awareness among realtors and encourage more testing as part of the normal protocol during the course of a real estate transaction.

This is a live webinar. A recording will be available for purchase after the webinar. 1 CE hour in Environmental Protection Issues in Real Estate.
